Delavan Community Beach Advisory: Delavan Community Beach regularly checks the water quality to keep visitors informed  Recent tests show higher levels of E. coli bacteria in the water near the shore. Because these levels are above safe standards, a swim advisory has been issued. Signs at the beach will indicate this advisory, see photo below for examples.   Swimming in water with high E. coli levels can cause stomach illnesses. However, E. coli levels can change over time so the advisory might not always reflect current conditions.   For the latest updates, maps, and information on which beaches are open,  visit https://apps.dnr.wi.gov/beachhealth/healthmap.aspx. Signs at the beach will also be updated regularly with the most current information.

Wild celery

The Delavan Lake Sanitary District has extended pier pick ups this season and will be extending the actual harvest season due to excessive plant growth this season. The wild celery has begun propagating for the year and is forming large mats on the lake, this is the plants natural cycle and is easily seen by the root system visible within these floating mats, the root system appears as white nodes that can protrude above the water line. We are speculating that the excessive growth this year may be due to heavy rainfall events this spring that contributed to larger runoff events than we’ve seen the last few years. We are currently on pace to have a record harvest this season with a greater volume of aquatic plants taken out of the lake since the inception of the harvesting program. We are working diligently to address the ever changing conditions that are associated with Lake Delavan.
